How to Play Roulette

It is a game played at a table with a roulette wheel containing numbered slots. European roulette table contain one zero while American roulette table contain two.

The table is numbered 0 to 36 and the wheel contains the corresponding numbers. In roulette the zero is always green, odd numbers are red and the even numbers are black.

Once you have placed your bets on the roulette table, the croupier (dealer) releases a small white ball into the already spinning wheel.

If the ball lands on number that you have bet on directly or even indirectly depending on the type of bet you made, you will be paid out correspondingly, before a new round of betting starts.

Roulette Bets and Payouts

There are many different types of bets you can lay in roulette, each with their own payout. It is fair to say that roulette bets with with the lowest payouts offer higher odds of winning and those with the highest payouts, lower odds of winning.

Straight Up Bets

When a bet sits on a single number - Payout 35:1

Split Bets

When a bet straddles two numbers - Payout 17:1

Trio Bets

When a bet straddles three numbers (0,1 and for instance) - Payout 11:1

Four Numbers Bets

When bets have been placed on 0,1, 2, and the intersection of 0 and 3 - Payout 9:1

Corner Bets

When a bet straddles four numbers - Payout 8:1

Street Bets

When a bet is placed at the beginning or end of a row (three numbers, 25, 26 and 27 for instance) - Payout 11:1

Line Bets

When a bet straddles the beginning or end of a row thus activating two streets (6 numbers) - Payout 5:1

Dozen Bets

When a bet covers the '1st 12' box (1 to 12), the '2nd 12' box (13 to 24) or the '3rd 12' box (25 to 36) - Payout 2:1

Column Bets

Like a dozen bet but covers the 1st, 2nd or 3rd columns - Payout 2:1

High or Low Bets

When a bet covers the 'low' box (1 to 18) or the 'high' box (19 to 36) - Payout 1:1

Red or Black Bets

When a bet is placed on either the 'red' or the 'black' box (the green zero is exempt from this bet) - Payout 1:1

Odds or Evens Bets

When a bet is placed on either the 'odd' or 'even' box (the zero is exempt from this bet) - Payout 1:1
